Natural ways to combat depression

The best natural ways to combat depression involves action and in-action. Numerous factors can trigger depression. Sometimes there can be life-changing circumstances that have led us here, like divorce, loss of a job or a loved one, but you can combat depression naturally. Life goes on and so must you.

Self-medication with food, alcohol or drugs is only a temporary fix at best, and can lead to a whole host of other problems. Know that inside of you lies a natural way to feel better again.
First allow yourself time to grieve. This is a natural process, and time has a way of lessening the pain. This is the time for in-action and meditation. Getting in touch with your feelings and let it all out, is what is important. Get back to nature. Watch the trees blow in the wind, and the sun rise and set and know that you are an integral part of all that.

When you’ve let it all out and cried your last tear, it’s time for action. You have thought about sad things for long enough and now it’s time to move on. Stop playing the same old tapes in your mind. What we think about all day is what we are. Focus on a plan of action and get moving. Life changes begin in small but consistent steps forward.

There is truly a mind body connection. Exercise with a brisk walk in the morning to get a natural boost from your endorphins. Pay special attention to your diet and get plenty of rest. Make sure you have enough vitamin C in your diet. Drink plenty of fresh juices and water. Eat lean sources of protein and green leafy vegetables and take a multiple vitamin.

Take the time to decide where you are now and where you want to go from here. If you lost your job, decide what you want next. Visualize yourself going in another direction if that’s what you want. See the steps you need to take to get there. Feel how good you feel when you’re taking those steps. If you can see a new joy in your mind’s eye, you will begin to believe in all of its possibilities.

Most of all, believe in you. Feel your power and the power within. Focus on a strong healthy mind and body moving forward. Make a plan and implement it. You have the power to change your feelings and your life. Your future happiness lies within you.
